Generic name: Pindolol

Brand name: Visken

Category/class: Beta- blocker’s.

Pindolol Use: It is a non-selective beta-blocker with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity.

Indications : It is used for the treatment of hypertension, angina Pectoris.


(*TD = 3 Times a day*)

(*OD = Once a day*)

(*BD = Twice a day*)

Adult Dosage:

Pindolol drug

Route of Administration:

May be taken with or without food— Oral, IV, IM

Frequency: Once a day (OD), twice a day / 2 Times a day (BD), 3 Times a day (TD)

Contraindications: Asthma, bradycardia, A-Vblock, shock, hypotension, hyperthyroidism, shock.

Precautions: To be used with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Veiled in milk and women on this medicine are instructed to refrain from nursing children. Used through pregnancy only after balancing the latent risk to fetus.

Pregnancy Category: B

Side-effects: diarrhea, chest pain, Anxiety, depression, headache, dry or burning eyes, nausea, confusion, skin rashes, cold or tingling hands and feet.

Mechanism of action:-

Pindolol blocks both β1-and β2 –receptors and with intrinsic symptomatic activity. It has negative inotropic and chronoscopic effects and can significantly slow AV nodal conduction.

Adverse Drug Reactions:-

Bradycardia, chest pain, dyspnea, hypotension, insomnia, heart block, tachycardia, heart failure, Palpitation, edema.

»Cardiopulmonary status

»Hepatic & Renal function

General Considerations:-

»Counsel patient to take without concern to meals

»Warn patient to avoid smoking and alcohol.

Pindolol Major Interactions:


Using pindolol with albuterol may reduce the benefits of both drugs, since they have opposite effects in the body. In adding, pindolol can sometimes cause narrowing of the airways, which may worsen your breathing problems or activate severe asthmatic attacks. Pindolol is generally not recommended if you have severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma, a history of asthma. Tell your doctor if you have any questions or complaints.


This combination of drugs pindolol with aminophylline. Using these medicines composed can make pindolol less effective and increase the effects of aminophylline. Ask your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, insomnia, tremors, restlessness, difficulty breathing or uneven heartbeats. If your doctor does recommend these drugs together, you may require a dose change or safely use both drugs.
